Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire has challenged women to seek more political positions in the next general election, August 2017.
Mbarire said women should not fear seeking elective posts since they are equal to the task that the positions demand.
“I want to challenge top women politicians, please don’t fear to seek more seats in the 290 constituencies. We need at least 50 women elected in the 290 constituencies,” she said.
She was speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) during the celebration of International Women's Day.
The event was graced by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
She said if there were more women MPs, the issue of passing the two thirds gender rule in Parliament would not be a challenge.
Mbarire who is also the chairperson for Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) announced her intention to vie for Embu governor seat.
