Nominated Member of County Assembly Esther Njeri Mengere has decried the increased cases of rape meted against the elderly in Nakuru.
Ms Mengere pointed out that old people had become a major target for rapists and sodomisers in the area.
On Monday night, an 80-year-old woman was sodomised in Mlima area in Kuresoi sub county.
The rapist, who dug a hole in the wall to get access to her house, raped her repeatedly before escaping.
The heavy rains hindered the neighbours from hearing her screams.
Neighbours, who tried to track her hours later, could not be able to track the rapist.
Mengere claimed the punishment being meted on rapists was lenient.
“They are now targeting the elderly and the very young children which has created fears in the area. In fact we fear that they might now resort to gang rape,” she added.
Ms Mengere called for a longer sentence for rapists in the country.
Mengere pointed out Molo, Njoro , Kuresoi and Kaptembwa as the most affected areas.
