An MCA has asked Governor Jack Ranguma to bring in more investors to pump money towards renovation of the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Nyalenda B Ward Representative James Were while discussing the governor’s speech in the Assembly accused the county government of not doing enough to improve the facility that currently has an artificial turf courtesy of FIFA.

“The county executive committee member for Sports Jennifer Kerre should take the initiative and look for investors to improve the stadium, that is now dangerous as its drainage is not well repaired and may injure players,” said Were.

He stated that the governor should approach companies that can chip in by building pavilions or stands and afterwards use the same to market their brands for free.

Last week during his speech, Ranguma said in regards to sports, they were working on refurbishment of the Kisumu Moi Stadium to international standards since currently the facility is being used to promote sports and develop talent.

“We have also offered financial support to various sporting clubs particularly in football, scouts clubs and the disabled,” said Ranguma.

He stated that the County is working on a continuous talent search through sports activities and other areas of talent.

Nominated MCA Lydia Odhiambo said: “To avoid shifting of matches to other grounds due to the depleted state of our stadium, the governor should bring on board partners to help.”
