Gitothua Ward Representative Patrick Chege has appealed to youth in the area to use the remaining time to register as voters.

Addressing youth at Ruiru Town on Monday, the MCA said that the number of youth turning out for registration is low.

He said that youth and residents will have to register as voters if they want to elect leaders who will bring change come 2017.

“Young people who have Identification Cards (IDs) and have not registered as voters should take advantage of the remaining time to register as voters,” he said.

Chege said that there has been a low turnout in the ongoing voter registration exercise that started on February 15.

“With only one week to go, we are appealing to those who have not registered to come out and register in large numbers,” he added.

The MCA said that change can only be realised through the electoral process.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) 30-day voter registration exercise ends mid this month.

The commission has raised concerns over low turnout, as it seeks to register four million new voters by the end of the exercise.

IEBC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezra Chiloba said the voter registration exercise is a continuous process and those who fail to register during this period will get another chance to register before the 2017 general elections.
