Nominated MCA Catherine Waweru has vowed to continue pushing for the construction of Gender Violence and Recovery Centres in all sub-counties.
Waweru who chairs the Social Services Committee in the Nakuru County Assembly said it was important to have the GVRC units built across all the sub-counties to address challenges that women face in the event of violence.
In addition, she said the units are important following the damning reports on how sex workers in Nakuru are manhandled.
“I tabled a motion on the floor of the house last year pushing to have GVRC units built in every constituency so that we address some challenges that women face. The units will also help in the treatment of sex workers who more often than not are victims of gender violence,” she said.
She said Governor Kinuthia Mbugua should urgently implement the proposal.
This is after a section of sex workers in the county appealed to the county government, police and community for support, stating that they are currently facing many challenges in their sex trade.
