Nominated member of county assembly Esther Njeri Mengere has warned against sex tourism in the county during the festive season.
Mengere said that Nakuru was a target for many sex pest who often would turn into young children living in the area.
“We are afraid that there is increased cases of people approaching young girls with bid to turn them into prostitutes and for sexual favours,” said Mengere.
Mengere was speaking to the press on Monday where she added that they would work with security forces to arrest and prosecute anyone found having sex with a minor.
“Unfortunately, children in the area have become a major target. We have seen increased cases in Nakuru Town, Naivasha, Gilgil, Elementaita, Njoro and Molo. There is an urgent need to ensure that this stops," she said.
Mengere added, "We will be working with police officers and the department of children health to seek such culprit. We also intend to carry out door-to-door raids in bars and lodgings. We also want to work with NACADA to ensure that the children who engage in drug abuse are rehabilitated,” she added.
She appealed to members of the public who have information on such cases to report them to the police.
“We promise to keep all the information we get as confidential,” she added
