A Kisii MCA has threatened to compel the county government to transfer a number of road contractors whom he accuses of having vested interest in certain wards.
Koina Onyancha of Bombaba –Borabu ward Monday alleged that some contractors were out to sabotage MCAs in executing their duties by deliberately delaying construction of roads in their respective areas.
He said road contractors should be awarded contracts in different wards away from their homes to avoid political showdowns with incumbents.
“I want to say that some road contractors are sabotaging MCAs by deliberately delaying contraction of roads to make us look bad to our electorates. They are seizing the opportunity and I have written to the executive to ensure contracts are given in a manner no one is assigned a road in his or her native,” he said.
Onyancha said the trend had affected the performance of MCAs with a number of them getting resistance from electorates.
“Some of us are facing challenges to explain to our electorates why some roads are taking unnecessarily long. We know some of these contractors want to be MCAs but they cannot hide in the name of contracts to antagonise us. We are ready and if the transfers aren’t done, then I will strategise how to correct the mess,” he added.
Onyancha’s warning comes a few days after governor James Ongwae threatened on Sunday to revoke contracts of contractors who were slow in their work.
