Many schools in Athi River and indeed the whole of Kenya are releasing their students to go for a mid-term break.
So many students in school uniform are seen loitering around town and crowding in various bus stages as they struggle to catch a "matatu" home.
This will come as a relief to them as they let their brains cool after being pumped with academic materials for almost two months!
Mid-term break also comes as a relief to the parents as they will have their sons and daughters around to help them in house chores and other domestic errands.
Mid-term break also comes with its disadvantages as some students will take this opportunity to engage themselves in unproductive activities like hanging out with friends that will lead them astray.
Mid-term break is the perfect time for students to read novels.
Reading will engage them positively as it expands one's thinking capacity.
For the form threes and fours, they can take this opportunity to read and re-read the set books.
