Education, Science and Technology Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has announced a raft of radical measures aimed at eliminating examination cheating once and for all.
The dossier of the described measures will be unveiled next week by Matiang’i when he will be releasing last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
Addressing Nyamira county Principals at Kebirigo secondary school on Friday, the Cabinet secretary stressed that the ministry was committed to stamping out the vice firmly and decisively.
He termed exam cheating as a phenomenon that emerged in recent times and had come to threaten the country’s education system.
Matiang’i disclosed the problem lies with the execution of policies at the schools level by the heads.
He also cited chronic students and teachers absenteeism as one of the non-executed policies saying he supported the TSC’s recommendation to democratise schools headships.
According to him, clan-based sentiments had been responsible for harassment competent non-local heads by some wanting Board of Governors (BOG) and area politicians.
"The ministry will henceforth disband such boards and support school heads who deliver their mandate," he warned.
Matiang’i, however, told the heads to stop hiding in myriad constraints facing their institutions at the expense of performance without suggesting on how to tackle them.
