The issuing of Waitiki land title deeds by President Uhuru Kenyatta at a fee has got people in Molo sub-county talking.
Waitiki, which is in Lamu, has been facing continuous disputes over land issues. President Kenyatta last week issued title deeds to over two thousand former squatters.
A spot check has revealed that diverse opinions are aired amongst the people.
"The settled people should be happy and grateful to the president. It's a good move to be land owners than been squatters," said John, one of the Molo residents.
Another resident, Weldon Githinji, was however of the idea that the people are poor and so the president should have issued the title deeds for free.
"Squatters have little or no money at all. Telling them to pay the installment is a raw deal. The government should have paid for the land," he said.
Salome Muthoni, yet another resident, congratulated the president on a job well done. She said that her wish would be that the president did that for many more areas that need that kind of life-changing help.
''I salute the government for the good work. It's great that people are owning land at such a low fee. I wish it was the same here," she said.
