Moi University joins the world to celebrate the World Aids Day marked across the world on Tuesday morning by hosting a Mr and Mrs Abstinence event.

Speaking to this writer, one of the organisers Isaac kitonga from Moi Health center said that the event allows them to create awareness especially in the universities.

He noted that youths across the university should be aware of the diseases and be ambassadors of eradicating the disease in the county.

He added that wearing a red ribbon to mark the event will not help if people are not educated on the dangers of HIV and Aids saying that awareness is crucial in supporting people living with HIV to overcome the stigma surrounding the disease.

Mr. Kitonga further urged the university students to abstain from unprotected sex since this will reduce the number of HIV infection victims in the institution.

"As an ambassador of creating HIV and Aids awareness you should be at the front line of urging others to say no to unprotected sex, and this will in the end save our society," added Kitonga.

World AIDS Day is held on the 1st December each year as an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.
