Molo residents have welcomed an effort by area MP Jacob Macharia to have Kenyatta University set up a campus in the town.
Speaking on Saturday after Kenyatta University vice chancellor Olive Mugenda toured the town in what is believed to be an inspection tour; residents said a campus in the town will increase business opportunities.
“This is the kind of leadership we should support. A campus here will mean business opportunities as students will create a market for diverse stuff,” James Ndirangu, a bodaboda operator said.
Molo Traders Association Chairman Charles Marioko has also hailed the move. Marioko said that increase in institutions of learning in the town will lead to growth.
“We have a KMTC here which will ensure our children get vacancies. Another campus will boost business in this town as well as other opportunities,” Marioko said.
“It’s an awesome idea if Kenyatta decides to come here,” he added.
Mugenda toured the area in the company of other university staff.
Area MP Jacob Macharia met the delegation for a meeting.
It’s still not yet clear what was agreed in the meeting.
