Mombasa residents have accused Senator Hassan Omar of engaging in what they termed as divisive politics.
This comes nearly a month after the senator declared his interest to contest for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat against the incumbent Hassan Joho.
Speaking to this writer on Tuesday at Likoni, the residents claimed that since the senator declared his interest to challenge Governor Joho, he has been engaging in reckless statements against Joho's administration, which he claims is abetting corruption.
This comes just a day after the outspoken senator accused the governor for being insincere in his statements, saying that the office of the county boss is very corrupt and that he has no moral authority to criticise the efforts made by the central government in the fight against corruption, when his own office is on the spot over the same graft.
Residents aren't happy with the senator's utterance, saying they were insincere and based on political interests.
“The senator should not pretend to be clean. If he has any proof of the governor taking part in corruption, let him go to EACC,” said John Juma, a Likoni resident.
“The alleged corruption cases should not be used as a campaign tool. Let him sell us his agenda,” said Benard Omanyala, a resident.
The residents said that they don't deny the fact that the office has been accused of corruption, adding that the allegations need to be dealt with diligently.
