Parents have been advised to monitor their children during the December holidays since it is one of the longest holidays in the academic year.
According to Kiamitengi clan of elder Nyakwana Orogo who spoke to this writer on Thursday, most of the crimes are recorded in December unlike other holidays due to the length of the holiday and the many feasts where children are left to attend mostly unsupervised.
“As the community, we are aware of the challenges that come with this holiday in relation to the safety of our children and so I advise parents to caution and monitor their children so that they can avoid engaging in any crime activities,” said Nyakwana.
Nyakwana also cautioned some residents who are still practicing Female Genital Mutilation secretly since according to researchers it has serious consequences for the girl child.
"Also as the parents, we need to protect our girls from getting early pregnancies that force them to drop out of school," he added.
