More public schools in Borabu constituency will have toilets constructed in the new program meant to improve sanitation in the learning institutions across the constituency.
Aspiring MP Dr Nyandoro Kambi said on Tuesday the program ‘Safisha Shule’ will see more schools get modern toilet facilities as a way of improving sanitation around the institutions to prevent air and water borne diseases.
He said the schools will also be served with dust bins that will be used to dispose litter, to avoid traditional methods of dumping litter randomly within the schools compound.
“Safisha Shule initiative is a program funded by Nyandoro Kambi foundation and it seeks to improve sanity in our institutions. We have put toilets and dust bins as the essential materials to be equipped in our schools,” he said.
According to him, the exercise will cover most needy schools that have been identified in different wards across the entire Borabu region.
“We have identified the neediest schools to benefit from the facility. Most pupils’ risks contracting deadly diseases due to poor sanitation and we want to improve the situation. It’s a collective exercise that also needs pupils and teachers to do their part. The foundation will also issue detergents that will be used to clean the new toilets that will be constructed in over 50 schools by May,” he said.
Nyandoro urged teachers to put sanitation ahead by ensuring their institution stayed clean by introducing school cleaning programs every day.
“It’s now upon teachers to ensure cleaning is done on a daily basis. We all know the danger that dirt exposes our children to and this is the time to act,” he added when visiting Riamanoti Primary school.
