Parents in Kangundo, Machakos County, have been urged to motivate their children to complete school in a bid to avert cases of school dropouts in the area.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, the Kangundo Sub-County director of education Hadard Wanjau, said cases of school dropouts had increased this year compared to the previous year.
Wanjau said many cases of school dropouts are caused by drug abuse, early pregnancies and poverty.
The director asked the parents to explain to their children the importance of education in their lives.
"Cases of school dropouts is an issue that needs to curbed and parents should play their role to ensure its success,” said Wanjau.
He noted that many parents do not follow up on their children's school activities thus kids take advantage of the lack of concern by parents and indulge in bad activities like drug abuse.
"I urge parents to motivate their kids, give them morale and give them a reason to strive hard in education. Remember these kids look up to you thus the need to be good role models,” said Wanjau.
Wanjau asked parents to strive hard and pay school fees for their kids in a bid to promote literacy in the region.
