The move by the US ad agency, Deutsch, to remove the JR artwork from Kibera has angered both the area MP Ken Okoth and residents.

On Saturday, Okoth took to his Facebook page to express his disappointment over the action.

The famous art which was done by French artist known as JR, was removed by the US ad agency at the weekend.

The artwork has been auctioned to Julien’s Auctions.

Residents too expressed their anger on the removal of the prints saying they did not only serve as beauty but prevented their roofs from leaking.

According to Vivian Etola of Kamukunji, the printing used to portray beauty since it covered the rusted iron sheets and also acted as a shield to prevent rain water from seeping into their houses.

“We have always appreciated the person behind the idea of painting our roofs since helped in making them look beautiful. This has exposed our rusted iron sheets. We are now back to square one,” said Etola on Tuesday.

The paintings were drawn on vinyl-tarpaulins and fixed on roofs in 2009. The work was appreciated by many residents.
