Governor Alfred Mutua has been told to account for the El-Nino emergency funds his government set aside for disaster mitigation.

Addressing the press in Athi River town on Tuesday, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, said the governor owes the county residents an explanation on how the fund was utilised.

"I, on behalf of Mavoko sub county residents and in extension those from the entire Machakos County demand that Governor Mutua gives an explanation on what the Sh300 million his government had allocated for El-Nino rains mitigation has done since the heavy rains started falling in the region," said Makau.

Mr Makau said there were lots of damages already reported from various sub counties of Machakos including Mavoko though the county government had done nothing to save the situation.

He sited various incidences where people, livestock, houses and property had been swept away by floods as a result of the heavy rains arguing he had never heard that the government had intervened to avert the situation.

Mr Makau said several roads in Mavoko such as that connecting Katani to Mombasa Road had been cut off.

He also said foot bridges like the one connecting Kasuitu Slum and Athi River town was eaten up by the waters.
