Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has asked the Mombasa County government to increase the daily payment of NYS workers who will be cleaning Kongowea market.
NYS Director General Richard Ethan Ndubai had said that more than eight hundred youths in the county will get jobs in the cleanup of Kongowea market.
According to Mr Ndubai, the youth will be paid Sh500 daily for working in rehabilitating the market in Mombasa.
Awiti urged the county government to increase the NYS budget of paying Sh500 daily to Sh1,300 daily.
The MP noted that from the daily pay the government will deduct Sh150 which is saved in a Sacco.
“The government should increase the payment for the youth who will be cleaning up the country’s second-largest market,” said Awiti.
The MP who was speaking in Mombasa Town said the county government in the past has done little to ensure the market is operating well and hygiene is improved.
“We want the government to put in place measures that will ensure the market which is a source or revenue for the county is kept cleaning and garbage collected.”
