The International Criminal Court should terminate cases facing Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang, according to a Kiambu MP.
According to Lari lawmaker Mburu Kahangara, ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has no evidence against the two Kenyans, who are accused of crimes against humanity committed during the 2007/08 post-election violence.
This comes days after the appeal court of the institution ruled that the prosecution cannot use recanted evidence against the two suspects.
“The judges in the court ruled that Bensouda should not use recanted evidence,” the MP said, adding that the decision showed that the prosecution team lacked evidence to carry on with the case.
The MP claimed that the prosecution was in favour of using recanted evidence because of ‘lacking concrete evidence’ to hold a strong case.
“What remains now is her declaration that she has no evidence to sustain the case and terminate it,” the lawmaker said.
The ICC is set to make a ruling on a no-case to answer submission in the coming days.
