The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been urged to deploy more teachers in Kitutu Masaba constituency to help solve under staffing crisis.

Speaking at his backyard in Magombo ward on Thursday, Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire attributed the poor performance of both Masaba and Manga sub county schools in national exams to under staffing and challenged the teachers’ employer to solve the problem immediately.

He accused TSC of failing to respond in time despite having written several letters in 2015 to the commission, citing specific schools that were in dire need of more teachers.

“I have analysed performance in the constituency and I am certain that we reduced from our 2014 KCPE mean of 245 to now 226. Furthermore, the institutions which raised the issue of under staffing are the one severely affected by the dismal results. TSC now ought to act because I have written to them a number of times,” he said.

Bosire said a number of institutions had experienced mass registration of candidates partly due to the free primary education hence leading to scarcity of teachers.

“Some institutions are operating with more than a stream but the ratio of teachers is the same. The government must realise that when we have free education, enrollment goes high and it must be tackled by deploying more teachers,” he said.

Bosire however challenged teachers to put more effort in lifting the academic standards of the region even with limited resources.

“As much as most schools are understaffed, teachers should also give their best. We want to see much better performances in national exams,” he said.
