Failure by members of the national Assembly to enact a roads bill,  which is currently pending before it, has adversely caused confusion between Nyamira County and the national government on which roads each is supposed to work on.

Nyamira County acting Kenya Rural Roads Authority roads engineer Anthony Matete said that with the enactment of the bill, the county and national government could each know which roads to work on, a factor which is yet to be done.

Matete challenged the MPs to move with speed in enacting the bill, in order to save area residents the agony they are undergoing due to the pathetic state of the roads in the county.

“If this bill goes through, roads could now be determined and each government could know which roads to work on to avoid work duplication and accountability," the engineer told reporters in his office on Monday.

He further said once the roads are classified, each government could now be held responsible following the funds allocated to it in relation to the budget.

Matete said that the Kenya Rural Roads Authority has allocated Sh18 million to each of the four constituencies in the county, which could be used construct seven roads in each constituency once the ongoing heavy rains subside.

He further said that Sh8 million has also been set aside for the roads maintenance in the four constituencies in the area.

Matete also challenged members of the county to always consider giving the road sector a high budget as a way of improving infrastructure in the county, which he said was wanting.
