Residents of Kiang'ombe estate have been asked to be cautious while using the Kiang'ombe Road-off Garissa highway following increased cases of mugging during early morning and late evening hours.

Makongeni Police Station OCS Samuel Khisa speaking at the station on Sunday said that several victims who had lost property along the road had reported at the station and therefore urged users to be careful.

"We have noted that the small road that connects Kiang'ombe estate to Garissa highway has been ravaged by muggers of late and we would like users of the road to be careful. Though we have increased patrols along the road, the road users should note that police cannot be there at all times and should be cautious," said Khisa.

Khisa said that many victims had reported to have been attacked by the said muggers using knives and other light weapons before vanishing to the nearby farms and thickets. The OCS added that the muggers are youths believed to come from the nearby Kiandutu slums.

"We have no doubt that these thugs have their hideouts in Kiandutu slums because we have had several such cases before where young men from the slum were involved. We are coordinating with our colleagues at Thika Police Station to ensure that we apprehend these criminals who are wrecking havoc along the route," he added.
