Machakos county Senator Johnstone Muthama is rooting for stronger unity among Cord coalition member parties ahead of the next general election.

Speaking at St Joseph Katheka Catholic church in Matungulu sub-county on Sunday during a fund drive, Muthama said that the only way the opposition can win over the ruling coalition is by zoning the coalition parties’ strongholds to ensure the coalition's’ candidates trounce their opponents.

“We propose to zone regions based on party popularity and ensure other coalition member parties do not come in to offer competition against a candidate from political parties within the coalition,” he said.

Muthama warned failure to do so would expose the coalition to defeat by its main competitor, which is the ruling Jubilee Alliance Party.

“We cannot have, for instance in Mombasa ODM, Ford Kenya and Wiper parties fronting separate candidates to run against each other in same elective positions as that would give competitors a good head start to beat us in the polls,” he said.

“I want to tell all voters from this region to stand firm in support of Kalonzo, as he is the only person with the requisite political experience to lead this country,” said the Matungulu legislator.

The MP poked holes on the recently launched Maendeleo Chap Chap movement by Governor Alfred Mutua, terming it ‘a passing cloud.’
