Residents of Kamwala Location, Mwala Sub-County on Monday raised alarm over public land grabbing in the area.

Speaking to journalists in Mwala market, the residents, led by Joseph Mutua, a former counsellor, said that a 5.5 hectare piece of land which had been set aside for construction of Kivulusi dam has been grabbed.

"The project was established more than three years ago but has never been completed following frequent break down of the construction machines including tractors which were abandoned at the construction site,” said Mutua.

The residents called upon Machakos County government to complete the project and restore the grabbed public land.

The residents said if the dam had been completed, it could have been of great benefit to the people especially now that the area is experiencing heavy rains.

"The residents could have used the dam to harvest rain water and preserve it for use during the dry season,” said Austin Mutinda, a village elder in Kivulusi village.
