Speaking on Sunday in Kisii Town, County Commissioner Chege Mwangi noted that the exercise was common during December holidays.

"Many parents take their children for the exercise during the month of December because of the long holiday. For this reason, I task all chiefs and their assistants to be vigilant and arrest anybody who participates in the act," he said.

"Whoever demonstrates laxity in his duty will be sent home with immediate effect," Mwangi warned.

He also cautioned the police against colluding with FGM suspects.

"Any police officer who will be found colluding with FGM suspects will not be spared either," he warned.

He urged the community, both men and women, to protect the girl child against the retrogressive culture which he said had rendered women in the county helpless.

"Our daughters are important but this cannot be the case if we don’t protect them. There are numerous issues related to the ‘cut’, our daughters and women who went through it can attest to that, their husbands look down upon them," he said.
