Residents of Mwea in Gatundu North have been told to embrace the fast changing technology through training and acquiring skills.
Addressing youths on Wednesday at Mwea shopping centre, Gatundu North director of development affairs John Gathogo said every Kenyan must acquire technological skills as a way of generating more wealth.
Gathogo said the government is committed to establish more polytechnics in order to absorb energetic young Kenyans to gain life changing skills.
"Polytechnics are not for failures. The government is out to outdo the norm of educational system that has proved to be a threat in the employment sector. Technical courses have ready jobs unlike theoretical courses where students strain to even acquire internship opportunities," said the Mangu Polytechnic Dean of Students.
"Gatundu North alone has seven ongoing polytechnics construction all which are geared towards equipping our youth with enough knowledge for self reliance. We will have these schools in Gakoe, Mugoiri, Mang’u, Igegania, Gituamba, Gatunguru and Kamwangi," he said.
He challenged Mwea youth not to be left behind but to enroll for vocational training in areas that they require most like car maintenance, plumbing works, electricity and wiring among others.
"People can save on the cost of employing man power from outside the home if they invest in vocational training to get needed skills to operate various machines," he said.
He lauded the government for partnering with constituencies to build polytechnics countrywide saying it as a better move of empowering all both economically and academically.
He urged Gatundu North constituents to monitor the projects funded by the government through constituency development fund to see that resources are well utilised for the intended purpose.
