Nyamira County is set to take the fight against alcohol and drug abuse a notch higher, after the National Campaign against Drug Abuse (NACADA) staff said they will stage road shows within the sub counties to sensitise residents on the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse.

According to the regional NACADA director Agnes Anyango, the county was targeted as some of the areas where consumption of the brews and drugs was alarming.

The director regretted the many lives that had been ruined by drugs and illicit liquor, and there was need to ensure that the campaign against that is intensified. .

She welcomed Kenyans of good will to join the campaign against drug menace for a healthier and productive society.

“The war on drugs cannot be won by few people. Let all of us join it in order to save our future generations. Parents should teach their children good morals and also create awareness about the negative effects of drug abuse,” said Anyango.

She regretted that many productive men and women had been destroyed by drugs such as Kuber, which she said causes cancer and liver cirrhosis as it was manufactured using waste products and chemicals containing a lot of nicotine.
