Detectives in Naivasha have cautioned residents to avoid speculations after 20 donkeys were found slaughtered in Kiambogo village stating they have launched investigations into the saga.
Addressing journalists in his office on Monday, area CID boss Martin Mbayo said they were treating the case like any other crime, further calling on the residents to avoid meddling with the scene of crime to avoid distorting evidence.
Mbayo was speaking amid reports that plain clothes officers had been dispatched across Naivasha town to deal with a looming demonstration.
"We have fast hand information that some individuals were planning to raid some butcheries they suspect to be linked with the donkey meat cartel but everything is under control. Now that we have evidence with several suspects with us to help in our investigations, there is no need to speculate," he said.
Police from Kiambogo police post had earlier on disrupted attempts by area residents to torch the homestead suspected to be secretly operating a donkey butchery with Nairobi's Bama Market suspected to be the secret destination.
Eight suspects have so far been arrested in connection to the cartel with the mastermind still at large.
