With the rising number of accidents involving motorcycles in Naivasha sub-county, police have reacted by warning all non-compliant operators to acquire the relevant documents or keep off the road.
During a meeting between the operators and security chiefs in Naivasha town on Saturday, it was resolved that to ensure sanity on the roads, only qualified and compliant operators will be allowed to engage in business within Naivasha town and its environs.
Area traffic boss Philemon Wambua regretted the recently released National Transport and Safety Authority report that ranked Nakuru County third among the most accident-prone counties saying the vice had to be stopped as a matter of urgency.
He called on sacco leaders to work with them in ensuring that everyone in their respective saccos adheres to the minimum traffic rules.
“We will use any necessary means to help stop this phenomenon because at the end of the day, it is our duty to ensure sanity on our roads,” he said.
Wambua advised youth to acquire driving licences before engaging in driving saying a bigger percentage of reported accidents involved drivers without licences.
“In fact, this is the reason why most of them run away after causing accidents knowing of the reputations of driving without a licence,” he said.
The officer further called on the local administration to help fight illicit brews in the area saying it was also affecting their service delivery because most young people were driving under the influence of alcohol as it is cheap and available.
