Naivasha residents have been advised to create an accommodative environment that is all inclusive for widows and single mothers.

Nakuru County woman representative Mary Mbugua has observed that widows and single mothers have been condemned by their neighbours wrongly and ostracised.

“I do not know some people are looked down upon because they are widows or single mothers. But the truth of the matter is that what we have to do and is godly is to support them rise again,” she said.

She was speaking to more than 70 women from different women groups who are either widows or single mothers in Naivasha on Wednesday.

Mbugua said she is intent on seeing widows and single mothers prosper in life through entrepreneurship.

“Being a widow or a single mum does not lock you out of business. You have equal potential just like any other person and what counts is to what extent you put in effort,” the MP advised.

The woman rep emphasised on training the groups on how to make bar soaps, detergents, juice and tomato sauce making from which they earn income and are dependent.

Edna Kagure from Longonot narrated how she was kicked out of her husband’s home two years ago after his demise and life was unbearable for her.

At some point, she said, she contemplated suicide but ended iup joining a local group which has helped her set up a middle level business in Naivasha town.
