The Nakuru County government has been lauded for the positive improvements it has registered as far as public procurement is concerned.

Public Procurement Oversight Authority (PPOA) Internal Audit senior manager Julius Mungai noted that the governor Kinuthia Mbugua led administration had recorded significant improvements compared to the previous assessment by the authority.

He was speaking on Tuesday after handing over follow up evaluation findings of an audit recently carried out in Nakuru to governor Mbugua.

He noted that the findings will be critical in helping the county review and implement in full all measures that will help Nakuru comply with procurement and disposal laws.

“After handing over our findings, we will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see both parties PPOA and the Nakuru County government commit themselves to an action plan aimed at streamlining activities on compliance with the law,” he said.

He called for cooperation and active participation during public engagements forums that will be held in all the sub counties, saying that it was only through such forums that the authority will get to know if the people are satisfied with the government’s expenditure.

“All we call for is cooperation from accounting officers and the general public because our work is just to review and give recommendations,” Mungai noted.

PPOA is tasked with checking on how counties, parastatals, state offices and other public offices do their procurement and how imprest is surrendered in the said offices.
