Each ward in Nakuru county has received a total of Sh1 million towards a bursary kitty.
The funds which will benefit needy but bright students were handed over by the Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua at a ceremony held at Nakuru’s Nyayo Gardens on Tuesday.
In a ceremony that was marked by incessant rains in the open ground, the governor who was accompanied by his Deputy Joseph Ruto and county Secretary Joseph Motari said that although education was not devolved, the county had a responsibility to support its residents.
“For the sake of our children, the county government has set up a kitty to help needy students access education for the sake of development,” said the governor among cheers.
In total, Sh55 million was disbursed at the ceremony with a promise of another similar amount after form one intake.
“Another Sh55 million will be disbursed after the form one intake to help needy bright students who will have secured places in secondary schools,” revealed the governor.
