Maize farmers in Njoro are now worried of experiencing post harvest losses due to chilly weather that may cause their maize to rot in their stores.

They said that the ongoing chilly weather and rains has denied them the time to dry their maize. They are now urging the county government to consider buying drying machines as an alternative means of drying their produce.

"This weather may cause our maize to be affected by aflatoxin due to poor drying that may cause the maize to rot. We fear that we may end up getting post harvest losses," said Isaack Karanja, a maize farmer from the area.

Karanja who had just harvested his twenty acre of maize said that he fears that aflatoxin may attack his harvested maize due to poor drying.

Alice Kipbiwott, another farmer from the area said that she has started counting loses as she can't dry her maize properly; she said that she had cultivated the maize on a thirty acres piece of land.
