A section of residents in Nakuru town have defended Governor Kinuthia Mbugua against accusations of attending the burial of a suspected Mungiki sect member Joseph Chege.
The residents said that Mbugua has the right to attend anybody’s ceremony, be it a funeral or wedding, at his own will.
Antony Njoroge, a businessman at Nakuru town, said that it was wrong for people to attack Mbugua for attending the funeral because he did it in his personal capacity.
“I don’t see the reason why we should attack the governor for attending a funeral of his long time friend because there is no crime in doing that and people should stop politicising everything,” said Njoroge.
He added: “Those attacking the governor are doing so for purely for political reasons and in any case they have no proof that the deceased was a Mungiki member.”
Nelius Njeri said that even if the deceased was a Mungiki member everybody was free to attend the funeral if the wanted.
“There were so many people who attended the funeral why are they only focusing on the governor why can’t they ask the other people why they attended the funeral,?” she posed.
Governor Mbugua has been attacked from different quarters for attending the funeral of Chege who was killed in mysterious circumstances but he has defended his attendance saying that he did so in his personal capacity.
