Barely a week after the Nakuru county government distributed motorbikes to chiefs and their assistants to ease service delivery at the local level, a section of residents have come out to accuse the beneficiaries of using the motorcycles for unofficial duties.

They say that some were even riding the bikes late into the night against a government directive banning any government vehicle moving past 8pm in the night.

The most affected areas are remote locations from Nakuru town where there is minimal supervision from senior government officials.

“It’s interesting that the motorbikes are already being used to transport our local chief’s children to and from school while illicit brews are still being consumed like nobody’s business, isn’t this ironical?” wondered Festus Chege, a resident of Chania location in Bahati.

He called on the concerned authorities to always make a follow up by making impromptu visits to different locations and Sub Locations if at all the desired goal of having the motorbikes around is destined to achieve the desired purpose.

While presenting the motorbikes on Tuesday last week, Nakuru County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha called on all beneficiaries to prioritize service delivery and make good use of the bikes in attending to people at their areas of jurisdiction on time.

The final phase of the project will be delivered before this week ends with another 148 motorbikes set to be distributed to the remaining chiefs and assistant chiefs as the county’s security agents plan on being among the best service delivering department in the region.
