Residents in Nakuru have lauded the move by the Energy regulation commission to reduce fuel prices during the festive season.

The residents hailed the move as timely saying that it came at the right moment when traveling costs were expected to triple.

Simon Gitau a resident at Stella estate in Nakuru west stated he was upbeat that he would travel home easily since he expected matatu operators to reduce transport cost going by the reduction in fuel prices.

"I hope this time I will travel to Nyeri smoothly without having to dig deeper in my pockets for the fare since the cost of petrol has gone down. I therefore, hope that the conductors will equally lower the fare," he said.

His sentiments were echoed by John Omondi a bodaboda operator who confessed that the move by the ERC would ease their pain in buying the highly priced commodity.

"Reduction in the cost of anything is quite a relief and we commend the ERC for doing as much this festive season," he said.

In the new prices announced by the energy regulator yesterday, a liter of petrol will cost Sh86.75 up from Sh88.29 while a liter of diesel will be sold at Sh75.23.
