For lovers of poetry, spoken word, acoustic music and the various styles of work of art, nakuru's upgrade poetry is where poets, writers, spoken word artists and acoustic as well acapella musicians sharpen out their skills in a creative feat. The group is now known for a series of spoken word events and diverse work of art.
Due to the demand brought about by their first event, Simon Njaria who is also part of the founding members points out that already plans for the next Street Poetry Nakuru "will take place on Sunday, 21st of February at Maasai Market also known as Skate Park from 4-6pm"
The group started at the A.C.K cathedral in Nakuru town as a teen club which was predominantly composed of young men and women, most of whom were college and university students.
Today it has grown into a feat comprising of a band of gifted artists, producers, singer-songwriters, dancers, actress and actresses from Nakuru town. Based in A.C.K cathedral, the group organizes monthly events of spoken word poetry. Their performance has seen them participate in popular gigs in nakuru town
Last month, January 31st. The group hosted their first edition of Street Poetry Nakuru, an event that aimed to utilize the works of art to address societal issues, among the pieces that expressed the theme of the afternoon event were pictures and paint drawn from the artists.
It is the large turnout of young talented artists that prompted the organizers of the event, to yet plan another Street Poetry Nakuru.
Simon Njaria, a media graduate from Nakuru's St. Paul's university, who is also among the founders of the upcoming group says that they aim at "sharing art through spoken word poetry and music with the society".
The group has gained momentum through a series of successful collaborations with upcoming young talents, like that's not enough, the group has proved not to stop any time soon.
