The Orange Democratic Movement supporters from Nyamira have been lauded for showing maturity and tolerance in the ongoing grassroots polls.
Party Secretary General Ababu Namwamba who visited the county on Tuesday hailed local organisers for promoting the ideals of the party by allowing party supporters to elect leaders of their choice.
He urged other counties that are on the verge of electing officials from the local level to emulate the Nyamira branch by making the exercise free and fair.
“As the party’s Secretary General, I am so moved by the tolerance and maturity that you have shown," Namwamna said.
"Supporting the democratic ideals of the party is the most important thing. I want to urge other counties that are on the verge of choosing officials to emulate this region,” Ababu said.
The Budalangi MP urged the elected officials to carry out civic education to promote the manifesto of the party ahead of the general elections and warned of a possible expulsion of officials who were not ready to adhere to the party rules.
“Our supporters and those willing to join us must be educated on our manifesto and that is your obligation,” he said.
The exercise will enter its final stages on Friday and Saturday as party officials at the county level will be elected to wind up a week long exercise.
