Orange Democratic Movement Secretary General Ababu Namwamba has urged youth to apply for ID cards for them to participate in the voter registration that will kick of in February.
Speaking at Moi University School of Law on Friday Namwamba, Namwamba said youth are the majority and should fully participate in the 2017 general elections.
"Although seventy per cent of Kenya's population is made up of the yuoth, only fourty per cent have Identity Cards and have registered as voters," he said.
"This is why youth are suffering since they are not involved in choosing the leadership of the country."
He said gone are the days where youths were deemed as leaders of tomorrow.
"I urge the registration of persons department to ensure that they take their officials to the grassroots for youth to register for ID cards and thereafter register as voters. Youth have a big role in determining the leaders of this country," he said.
He called upon the national government through the Ministry of the Treasury to allocate more funds to IEBC for them to conduct their business smoothly to all parts of the country.
