The National Cohesion and Integration Commission chairman Francis ole Kaparo has warned the public against engaging in hate speech.

Speaking in a Nakuru hotel Monday, Kaparo affirmed that anyone who will engage in spreading hate messages will face the law.

The NCIC chair addressed leaders from Nandi and Kisumu counties following the recent clashes witnessed between the two communities.

He revealed that many cases taken to court by the commission from 2013 to date are still pending in court.

He called for faster hearing of the cases so that legal action may be taken against those found guilty.

Nandi Governor Dominic Biwott pointed out that the clashes between the two ethnic groups were majorly caused by rampant cattle rustling.

"It is crucial to note that the recent war between Nandi and Luo communities is caused by cattle rustling. It is not caused by political stands as many people tend to think," said Biwott.

NCIC commissioner Linda Achieng said action will be taken against those who perpetrate hate speech on social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp.

Residents along the Nandi and Kisumu border have been urged to refrain from cattle rustling and engage in other economic activities such as mixed farming.

The meeting's aim was to discuss the solution of the constant clashes in the region.
