Over 700 children from schools in Mavoko sub-county on Sunday received donations of school uniforms from Chama Cha Uzalendo party leader Wavinya Ndeti.

Addressing the press shortly after the exercise at Mavoko Stadium in Athi River town, Ndeti said the children hail from humble backgrounds in several slums within the sub-county hence vulnerable.

“It is not the first time to do this, I have been providing clothing to orphans and vulnerable children both for those in and out of school from poor backgrounds for ages now,” said Ndeti.

Ndeti said several children drop out of school due to lack of uniform thereby shuttering their lifelong dreams hence the importance of the donation.

She said if children are smartly dressed while in school, they not only stay and excel in academics but also develop confidence, high self-esteems that enable them become people of great personalities unlike if when they attend their classes in rags and tattered clothes.

“I was born and raised in Athi River town, attended my early primary education in Athi River Primary School before proceeding to London hence know the challenges that needy children go through thereby compromising their education,” said Ndeti.

“Education is very important and we need to ensure children have conducive learning environment in spite of the fact that majority of them come from either very poor backgrounds or low-income earners families,” said Ndeti.

Ndeti said she is passionate about education and will always work hard to ensure education of children from the entire Machakos County is improved.

She said education is paramount arguing if you educate a community, you close prison doors and open gates for the same community’s growth and development.

Ndeti said she will always support education in whatever way asserting orphans and vulnerable children from schools in all the eight sub-counties within Machakos county will benefit from the uniform donation programme.

“There are lots of vulnerable children in Mavoko, the only shower I can put in your houses is to educate your children,” said Ndeti.

She, however, called on the parents to create good relationships with teachers and support them provide the best education for their children.

“Teachers do commendable jobs of nurturing children to responsible adults and professionals, they need motivation to have morale in educating children properly. Parents need to work together with teachers for successful education of children,” said Ndeti.

Ndeti said teachers are the ones who raise most of the children since some of the parents do not have time for their own children rendering the teachers first parents of the children.

She said she was the first one to start computer project in schools across the country in 1997, a project that the Jubilee government is struggling with now.
