Chama Cha Uzalendo party leader Wavinya Ndeti has faulted the proposal to merge political parties into two major coalitions ahead of the 2017 general elections.

Addressing the public in Mavoko sub-county on Tuesday, Ndeti said the push by certain political leaders for the many existing parties to be merged is ill advised and against the spirit of the Kenyan constitution.

“There are people trying to kill political parties in this country, we cannot accept to have only two parties or coalitions in the entire nation,” said Ndeti.

Ndeti said those agitating for the merger forget that people sacrificed themselves and tirelessly fought to move the country from one party state (KANU) to emergence of several parties (multiparty) realised in 1992.

She accused the Jubilee administration of making the Political Parties Liaison Committee ineffective by failing to give it necessary support it requires to effectively execute its mandate.

“The issue of not supporting the committee or agitating for killing of other political parties should be condemned, everybody has a constitutional right to form or join a political party of his/her own choice without being compromised,” said Ndeti.

Ndeti, however, condemned leaders who neither respect political parties nor leaders of the parties that have sponsored them into offices.

“Some people do not respect their parties, if elected with a party you must respect it to the latter and exercise full loyalty to the party leader,” she said.

Ndeti said Governors, Senators, Women representatives, MPs and MCAs who are tired of the parties which sponsored them into those positions should resign to pave way for immediate by-elections in line with the political parties act.

She said the MPs recently removed from parliamentary committees by their parties for not being loyal to their respective parties should stop complaining.

“Some MPs complain that they have been removed from parliamentary committees, you must respect your party and party leader. If you cannot, rally as an independent candidate,” said Ndeti.
