A section of women and youth in Ndumberi Ward, Kiambu Constituency have lauded the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) for clearing former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru of corruption allegations that rocked her ministry leading to her resignation in December, 2015.

Speaking at Ndumberi shopping centre on Monday, the youth and women said that Waiguru was innocent of the corruption allegations.

They said that the move by EACC to clear Waiguru’s name is a clear indication that she was not involved in the scandal.

“We are happy that EACC has cleared Waiguru of the corruption allegations because we knew she was innocent,” said James Macharia, a youth in Ndumberi.

Mr Macharia said Waiguru's development agenda pushed some malicious people to implicate her in the corruption allegations.

He said youth were benefiting from the National Youth Service (NYS) projects that had been started by the former CS.

Joan Wairimu, a vegetable vendor at Ndumberi shopping centre said the move to clear Waiguru of the corruption allegations is good news to women.

Ms Wairmu said that hard working women in government were being targeted by people who are enemies of development.

“The clearance of madam Waiguru gives us women confidence to continue agitating for equality,” she said.

The women and youth now want Waiguru to come back to government and continue with the work she was doing.

They said her projects had transformed the lives of many unemployed youth and women in the country.

The EACC in letter signed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Halakeh Waqo and addressed to Chief of staff Joseph Kinyua, cleared Waiguru of the Sh791 million corruption scandal at the devolution ministry.

Waiguru resigned last year after her ministry came under the spotlight over the alleged corruption.

The former CS cited health issues as the key reason for her resignation but said she was ready to take up lighter duties.

Waiguru has since shown interest in politics with sources claiming that she is bracing herself to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2017 general elections.
