The entire Kenya Union of Sugarcane Plantation & Allied Workers (KUSPAW), Chemelil Branch officials were voted out during the election over the weekend.

Paul Menya was elected secretary in a hotly contested elections held at Chemelil Sports Complex Stadium under heavy police presence from nearby Chemelil Police Station.

The polls were conducted by Busia Sub-County Labour Officer Ben Odhiambo as the returning officer.

Incumbent secretary Jack Osida suffered a humiliating defeat and received a paltry 18 votes.

During the poll, the following six board members were elected Hellen Aomo representing union electorate in the Finance Department of Chemelil Sugar Company, Judith Ondiek (Human Resource Department), Thomas Arodi (Factory Department's Engineering Section), Judith Siwa (Factory Department's Process Section) and both Andrew Baraza and Christopher Okulo elected to represent Agriculture Department.

Speaking to the press after the elections held on Sunday, the new branch secretary Menya thanked the electorate for demonstrating confidence in him and voting him back after a ten years absence.

Menya said, "l want to assure the branch electorate that l am determined to restore Chemelil to its former glory and equally promise members that during my tenure confidence in the union will be restored."

However, Menya said in order for the newly elected branch union officials to achieve their campaign pledges he is determined to ensure they work as a team adding that "we will extend the same team spirit in our working and relationship with the Chemelil Sugar Company management team.
