Residents of Ngenda ward in Gatundu South in Kiambu county have appealed to the Kiambu county commissioner Alex Nkoyo to deploy more security officers in the area to curb the rising crime. The residents are lamenting over rise in criminal activities in the area and want the government to assure them of their safety.
Speaking to this writer on Thursday, the locals alleged the rise in criminal gangs that are terrorizing them.
Monica Mburu, a resident of Ngenda village said that criminals are having a free time in the area. She said that crime has shot up adding that despite the presence of police, criminals are still terrorizing the area.
Ms. Mburu said that residents are no longer safe as criminal gangs continue to terrorize and rob them even in broad daylight.
“Our security is no longer guaranteed because criminal gangs are causing us sleepless nights,” she complained.
“The government should do something urgently to ensure that we are safe and we continue with our businesses in peace,” said John Walokana, a taxi driver in Gatundu town.
The taxi operator claimed that there is a gang targeting operators of taxis and boda bodas.
“We have had several cases where taxi operators are hijacked, robbed and beaten up by criminal gangs,” he alleged.
Mr. Wolokana appealed to the county security officials to up their game and restore safety.
On Thursday last week, a taxi operator was hijacked and murdered by unknown people at Gatundu South.
While commenting on the residents’ concerns, Gatundu South OCPD Bernard Muli said that police will intensify security across the area.
He said that the police have mapped out areas believed to be criminal dens and will immediately flush them out. He asked locals to share information with the police for them to be able to pursue the criminals effectively.
