Uasin Gishu County Women Representative Eusila Ngeny has urged the national government to increase the amount allocated for Affirmative Action Fund for more people to benefit.
Ms Ngeny on Tuesday said the amount being given by the government is a drop in the ocean, hence the need to increase the allocation.
"The national government has set aside Sh42 million for Affirmative Action Fund which cannot cater for women, people with disabilities and special groups," she said.
"We are carrying out sensitisation programmes among county residents on the good use of the fund. I urge women to apply for the fund since it will improve their livelihoods,"she said.
She said the amount will only be disbursed to women groups that are registered and challenged them to use the money in projects that will generate income since in the long run, they will have to payback the amount.
"I urge women to apply in large numbers for the fund since the turn out is very low despite the money being at their disposal," she said.
