National Council of Non-Governmental Organisations has praised President Uhuru Kenyatta's recent move in fight against graft.

The council's director Steve Cheboi has urged the National Assembly and the Senate to hasten vetting of Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) nominees.

The council also decried the lost billions of shillings to graft at the national and county governments.

"Immediate vetting and approval of the EACC nominees will ensure the fight against graft runs smoothly," said Cheboi who was flanked by other NGO members from the Rift Valley.

Cheboi said lack of enough EACC commissioners has slowed down the fight against corruption.

He urged the nominated commissioners to ensure corruption is eliminated in government to save the country's economy from collapsing.

"The war on graft should not be left to the president alone, there should be concerted efforts, starting from individual to institutions and the relevant bodies mandated to handle corruption such as the EACC and judiciary," he said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday nominated Philip K. B. Kinusu to be the Chairperson of EACC.

He also nominated Dabar Abdi Maalim, Paul Mwaniki Gachoka, Sophia Lepuchirit and Rose Mghoi Mtambo Macharia as members of the anti-graft body.

Cheboi also urged Parliament to expedite pending Bills on corruption and economic crimes.

He also suggested the harmonization of the numerous referendum initiatives to come up with a strong push for constitutional review.

"The group under Okoa Kenya and the one by the council of governors plus that by Jubilee legislators should come together and agree on what parts of the constitution they want changed," he said.

He also cautioned political leaders against preaching disharmony ahead of the next general elections.

His sentiments were echoed by Jackie Chebet of the Mid-Rift Human Rights Network, who urged the President to order monies acquired through corruption be reverted back to the public.

She claimed that the National Cohesion and Integration Commission was doing little to eliminate hate speech.
