An entrepreneur and owner of one of the largest fresh feed in Nakuru’s Njoro sub county has received international recognition after being awarded best entrepreneur of the year.
Speaking when he hosted his employees, friends, family, government officials from both the county and national government and other stakeholders on an end year party cum thanks giving session, CEO and founder of Njoro Canning Company Thakarshi Patel predicted better years to come, saying that the award was timely after he launched an expansion plan targeting the larger Nakuru County.
“This award is for all of us because we work as a team here while if it were not for the ever ready market offered by the good people of Nakuru, we could not have reached where we are today,” he said.
Thakarshi beat competition from more than 500 other established contestants from across the country and other East African countries to emerge the overall best.
The awards were launched five years ago by Ernst and Young Company limited, an international human resource company in partnership with Standard Chartered Bank and The World Bank.
“The award is an eye opener to the county government and other stakeholders to come up with structures of marketing the county at the international level to woo other potential investors because I believe Nakuru is saturated with opportunities that if well utilised will make it one of the best places in the region,” he said.
The company engages in production of frozen chips, crisps and other potato products and offers a ready and available market to potato farmers bearing in mind that Nakuru County is one of the largest potato production areas in East and Central Africa.
Governor Kinuthia Mbugua who represented county government officials accompanied by other senior officers lauded the achievement further promising to work with private investors in making Nakuru a business hub.
