After Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua launched his Maendeleo Chap Chap movement early this month, some leaders have started to hide in his movement. Such leaders who have done nothing to their people while in power are seeking re-election come 2017 as they think that once they are seen in Mutua's movement, they will be able to convince voters to re-elect them.
Governor Mutua has done well for his county making Machakos County to emerge as the best performing county government last year. This has made many leaders in Machakos to run and hide on his Maendeleo Chap Chap movement.
Leaders who have been elected like him and have failed in their areas want to be identified with Mutua thinking that will make voters to re-elect them. Others who were once elected members of parliament have become hypocrites and want to claim that they are good leaders by supporting the Chap Chap Movement.
Since it's almost one year before the 2017 national elections, elected leaders should know that they will be re-elected because of what they did to the people and not according to their political parties. They should work hard now if they have dreams of being re-elected again as voters have opened their eyes and won't be convinced to elect selfish leaders.
